  1. How accurate is VoiceType Application Factory?

    IBM believes this product to contain the most accurate speech recognition for this class of recognition in the market today. However, the accuracy depends on the active vocabulary. This product gets very good accuracy, for example, with continuous digits. This reaches 99.4% accuracy in the lab. On the other hand, recognizing the letters of the alphabet is very difficult, since many of the letters sound very similar. For example, E, T, B and C have the same predominant 'ee' sound. Accuracy can be maximize by using a 16-bit card and a high quality, directional microphone that has some degree of noise-canceling properties.

  2. Does this product require a special sound card?

    No. VoiceType Application Factory works with most standard industry sound cards and subsystems. As long as a card has a driver to work with Windows, it should work with this product. Recognition tends to be better with 16-bit cards than with 8-bit cards.

  3. How do I use this product?

    VoiceType Application Factory provides developers with a C application programming interface (API). It can be integrated into an application using popular C/C++ compilers. Third party companies are developing graphical interfaces to facilitate creating applications without programming. A custom control for Visual Basic will be available shortly from A&G Graphics Interface in Cambridge, MA.
