Nina,
Concerning the problem with the "Correct That" command, we've talked
about this issue on this list quite a bit in the past. If you look at
Joel Gould's wonderful NatSpeak site, you will see where he explains how
to change the "Correct That" command (by editing your registry settings)
if you are having problems with it. His suggested change is to change
the command to "Correct That Please". In this manner, you won't be
pulling up the word "that" to correct. (The url for that section of his
site is: http://www.synapseadaptive.com/joel/changing_commands.htm )
I used Joel's suggested phrase of Correct That Please for awhile, and it
worked well. However, after experimenting a little bit, I decided I also
wanted to change my Correct XYZ command as well as my Correct That
command, because I used to be misunderstood a lot when using Correct XYZ
(which is where you say Correct and then say the text you want to
correct). Formerly, Natspeak often misunderstood my Correct as "Crack"
or "Cracked" instead of Correct, and so would type in the words crack or
cracked plus whatever words I said afterword. No matter how much I
trained on the command Correct and the words "crack" and "cracked", I
would still get this misrecognition enough for it to be annoying.
Therefore, I changed my Correct XYZ command to "Correction"--which NEVER
seems to get misunderstood. Since I wanted uniformity between my
Correct XYZ and my Correct That commands, I also changed my Correct That
command to "Correction Please" .
Those correction commands work wonderfully now. If this discussion
seems a little over your head, just read and re-read Joel's instructions
on changing the commands, then back up your registry before changing it,
and go for it. The registry is really not as intimidating as it seems.
The only problem is--there is no undo (at least under Win95--I'm not
sure about Win98), so that's why you need to have a backup of your
registry settings in case you change something you didn't mean to, and
you don't know what it was you changed by mistake.
Good luck.
