b. Crystal Sound Chipset
Is there any way of changing this chipset - if so how and to
what?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
You can disable the Sound Chip in the BIOS of most computers. Many desktops
upon booting give a message such as, "Press Delete to enter Setup." You must
then find the the option for the Sound Chip. It may be in peripherals or
even down one or two sub levels. If you've never done this before, don't be
afraid, just be careful. If you have any doubts that you may have made an
incorrect selection, when you exit you can save without making any changes.
If you are sure you want to make the change, exit with changes saved.
Once you've disabled the Crystal Sound Chip you can install a regular sound
card. For speech reco you will do fine with a SoundBlaster 16 PnP (not the
Value model), an Ensoniq PCI or a pricier SoundBlaster 64 Gold. Other people
on this Newsgroup have reported good results with the Turtle Beach Sound
Cards.
By all means, get a new sound card if you want to improve your accuracy.
