==========
On Win95 free "system resources" as reported in the Performance tab of
System Properties refers to an amalgam of User & GDI resources, which bears
only a rubbery relationship to total physical / virtual RAM. In most
instances it equates to free User resources, and reflects the manner in
which Windows assigns memory to programs from the User heap. Some
programs, eg Eudora, can "waste" system resources in a remarkable way,
taking User resources down by 30-40% on a 64MB system, and don't always
return it to the heap when closed.
NatSpeak itself seems very sparing in its use of system resources. I
haven't myself noticed the performance degradation in NatSpeak reported by
others when resources are middling-low -- eg about 40-50%.
