The one other Power Secretary user then... :-) My feelings on Power
Secretary are different, however I have a learning disability which
effects my ability to type. I also have word finding problems so I'm
really not to unhappy with discrete speech. Also even if I wanted it I
could not afford the hardware requirements. The accuracy I am getting
isn't too bad. I would definitely recommend a different microphone. I am
quite happy with the Andrea 600. You do need the battery pack with it
however.
However if you are talking about continuous speech there are several
different answers to your question. BTW, none of them is gospel.
The first answer is they are waiting to see if Macintosh survives.
Perhaps there is more likelihood of this now.
Another answer is that they are waiting for the next major operating
system. This would probably be smart as Steve Jobs appears to change his
mind on this every other month or so. :-)
I also understand from the newgroup comp.speech that you may need
preemptive multitasking to accomplish continuous speech. However, that is
not the sole factor or Amiga and Unix would both have continuous speech
programs!!
You might take a look at the web page:
www.macspeech.com
They are working on a continuous speech program for the Mac. I don't
know who they are beyond their statement that they are a group of people
who worked on developing Naturally Speaking and ViaVoice. They want you
to vote and give your opinion. Not a lot of information here yet. But you
might what to give them your vote of confidence.
