I currently have a single 128MB DIMM on my Gateway Pentium II (233) system.
I am unable/unwilling to run "lean and mean" enough to have only a handful
of programs running, and I usually boot with about 90% free resources.
While running DragonDictate 3.0 and D/NS Personal 1.0, and having started
and stopped a number of programs for a few hours (notably IE 3.0 and
Netscape 4.0), I can frequently drop to ~50% free resources, and my system
drags.
Am I likely to realize much benefit by adding another 128MB DIMM
(especially in light of the additional memory requirements of D/NS 3.0)?
Also, for the hardware gurus out there, does anyone have experience adding
memory to Gateway systems? They charge $400 for a 128MB DIMM, but the
street price is <$200, even with my Govt. purchasing constraints. Is there
anything which I should watch out for (espec. w/regard to compatibility)?
PC66 memory will be fine for this LX-based system.
TIA,
- Jonathan
