The NaturalText plug-in has two purposes:
1) to be able to dictate text directly into another Windows application
thereby bypassing the copy-and-paste step that would be necessary if you
first dictated into the native NaturallySpeaking word processor. For
example, I could load NaturallySpeaking followed by my mail program and then
dictate this reply directly into my mail program. However, NaturalText has
some severe limitations when it comes to correcting recognition errors --
you can only correct by voice the LAST thing you said.
2) to be able to 'track' menus and other applications so that items on the
menus may be activated by voice (one exception to this is Microsoft Word, at
least with the 2.02 release of NaturallySpeaking). Coupled with the macro
capability available in NaturallySpeaking Deluxe you can use this feature to
create an almost completely hands-free environment. Personally I tend to
use NaturalText more for its menu tracking abilities rather than direct
dictation capability since I find its correction limitations quite
frustrating when dictating anything but the shortest text document.
[I currently have Deluxe version 2.02 with both the NaturalWord and
NaturalText plug-ins installed. By making use of the capabilities of the
NaturalText plug-in I am able to dictate this reply and place in the Send
queue of my E-mail program all without using the keyboard.]
