1.) I do have the latest version of the audio
driver for my system.
2.) I do train my files from scratch on both
computers. Because I am paranoid, I also created
new users when I changed microphones on the same
system.
3.) Perhaps I should not admit to this, however I
don't want anyone to get the idea that the Dell
computer is faulty. I called DragonDictate
technical support on Monday and explained my
situation and tried to figure out why I was
getting invalid page fault errors and C0005 fatal
errors. The combination of these two problems was
causing my computer crash on a regular basis and
causing me to lose all of my work. Because I had
followed all directions given on his pager are
running a clean computer, running ScanDisk,
defrag, and keeping temporary files to a minimum,
she decided to send me a working copy of NatSpeak
3.0. This not only fixed my problem. I went from
83 percent accuracy to about 99.5 and one
afternoon. I am so excited I can barely contain
myself.
4.) Part of my success may be due to the fact that
Larry Allen sent me a lapel microphone. I am not
sure what brand it is. This is especially nice
since I dictate in bed. Because I have it clipped
to my collar in the middle of my chest, it does
not get moved around by the pillows and I do not
have to reposition it. Admittedly, I use it in a
relatively quiet environment (unless my 8 year old
child is at home :-)). There is a refrigerator
running a few feet away. I cannot find the remote
control or I would test it with the television set
on. After my exam, I will report back to you how
it performs in a noisier environment.
It's numbers look like this on the Alt+1
test:noise = 17, sound = 41, s/n ratio = 24
Anyway, I better get back to studying.
I want to thank you all for your help. I
especially want to thank Larry for all of his
patient help and over the phone diagnosis of my
problem.
Mary
