My sister used to run IBM voice type version 1 on a similar machine.
It might have had more RAM, and there is a slight chance that it was a
DX 4-100, though I don't think so. I can't say that it ran well, either.
If you use a microphone which requires a bias voltage (e.g. VXI or
Andrea) you will need to use the appropriate battery box, because the
microphone jack doesn't supply a bias voltage. I would guess that the
sticking point would be the RAM, which I think is less than the official
minimum for DragonDictate for Windows. I don't think that DragonDictate
for DOS will run with any sound card other than the IBM M-ACPA card, and
since I don't think there is a docking option for the 701, I think that
that would not be a possibility.
Finally, I would get a decent microphone, and the Dragon Systems audio
setup wizard and see what rating you get before you put more money or
time into it.
