new developments in nats hearing loss

Now the speech bar is solid red when there is no sound, and alternately
flashing red and yellow like disco lights for no reason, no dictation or
background noise is occuring. Mouse executed commands are sluggish as well.
I feel like I'm having a nat melt down.
