Hello,
I just bought a copy of the latest version of Turbocad. Along with all
the other features outlined on the big, glossy, box was speech recognition -
"Draw by talking!".
When I got it home, I discovered that the speech subsystem was actually
a copy of Dragon Dictate. OK, that's not surprising. I worried a moment
about installing it ; I already have DD, and didn't want it blown away.
Then I decided to go for it - I could always reinstall DD if necessary.
After a short session with Alex the Dragon, I was up & running. My
observations:
* The training was VERY short. Seemed shorter than when I installed DD.
* Recognition was quite accurate. I think both of these effects are
because of limited vocabulary; I don't think the CAD package has more
than a few hundred different menu choices, etc.
* This DD behaved more or less like the "normal" one, with the exception
that if I went into any other application than the CAD package, the
voice bar said "unsupported application".
* The "voice" part of things was badly documented; they included a
copy of the DD manual on the CD, but that manual didn't mention the
CAD package. And the CAD manual just mentioned the voice feature in
passing - all of one paragraph worth of text.
In general, I wonder if it's worth bothering with "embedded" Dragons?
Maybe my "big" copy of DD will work just as well. The README said that the
little DD would not coexist with other copies of DD, but that it would
play nicely with Naturely Speaking.
