Conjectures.
I should imagine that the units are decibels? The main question would then
be :
how is the incoming mixture separated into two components which can be
compared i.e voice and noise ? As a wild guess. I wonder if the noise level
could be estimated from the quieter passages which it would interpret as
gaps between the words amd hence consisting of pure noise? This would be
consistent with the observation on this list that the Wizard gives lower
estimates of s/n if you fail to stop between sentences (it would then be
forced to take the minium signal levels as the noise level and these values
would over-estimate the noise).
