OK, lets talk about Jenny !
The only way I can stop spam from coming into the list (if they are using
voice-users@@voicerecognition.com) is to make the list ONLY accept messages
from s ubscribed users (notice the space so that this message doesn't get
rejected by the listserv).
However, I did this a few weeks ago and I received anywhere from 20-30
messages that did not go through to the list. This includes anyone who has
had a variation for their email address, or anyone in the voice-users-digest
which include many active members that do not like to receive 10 - 30
messages daily.
Unfortunately, there is no way around it. However, if you would like to try
the 'members can post only' routine for a few weeks to see how it goes, that
is ok by me. However, I am unable to re-post every message that is rejected
by the listserv program. Maybe with a less active list, but this list
posts over 300 messages per week.
I do have 1 or 2 suggestions. As someone mentioned earlier, if you can use
some type of filtering program to filter things like (You've Won, or Bulk
Email or xxx or adults only or This is not mlm or any one of the average
emails, you will notice a pattern in these spam mails and can filter most of
them out. Email programs capable of this are Netscape Mail, MS Outlook 97
(Outlook 98 has a special facility for spam mails), Calypso, Eudora, and
many others.
Well, lets take a vote.
