Of course you are. Agreed. Agreed. However, this thread did not start
about "charity". The original complaint, if I understood it correctly,
was that posters like you were unfairly imposed upon and disadvantaged
as well as made unwillingly to appear as an agent of 21st because two
graphic signposts appeared at the bottom of the html page displaying
archived messages.
Clearly (I measured) your signature information shown immediately above
covers more space on my monitor than both of the archive logos
complained about: One that is simply a signpost for the list
information and one that says "Hosted by 21st Century" with an embeded
link in each. Each is wholly inoffensive IMHO. Each consumes the same
four vertical lines, yours consumes seven.
Neither suggests that you promote the list or 21st Century or gives
informatin about 21st Century. In contrast, YOUR sig provides your
phone, fax, e-mail and website information as well as a website link and
an advertising line about your products. And it appears on EVERY post
you make, AS WELL as on each archive of your post that 21st provides for
you.
My point about leaving well enough alone <g> is that not only do I think
Enrique is more than reasonable in having those logos on the website's
archive pages, I also think it would be quite reasonable for him to add
a 21st Century advertisement with the kind of information you have in
your sig as a tag line on every message posted through the list server.
He is apparently not interested in doing this now, and he even is
apparently willing to reduce the size of the logos on the html archive
pages.
However, actually TWO of the other lists I'm on do have add-on
advertising tags attached to every message posted without complaint of
the participants. Our friend from Ford mentions a couple of others.
IMHO thou doth protest too much. You certainly ARE entitled to your
opinion and so is everyone else. But haven't we beat this to death
now? I'd rather hear your opinions on preventing RSI. More and more of
us (including me) are feeling unwelcome twinges. How about if we just
end this thread?
My apologies to other list members for the bandwidth, if they have read
this far, as well as for prolonging this discussion. Every list has a
history and a culture. I am relatively new to this list, and I hope I
haven't offended anyone, including Martin and you, George, or been
presumptuous in calling it as I see it instead of letting it be. I'll
try to make my contributions more on "voice" issues in the future. BTW
I am scheduled to get L&H's new VoiceXpress product when it ships, so I
will share my impressions with you as I review it from the viewpoint of
the more inexperienced user of speech recognition products.
