Well, there is a way around this that I hinted at, but maybe should
have spelled out; it relies on the fact that the logos are only
seen by people who read the messages themselves, so if that's
only true on my system, let me know.
These messages, I said, are archived too. We can adopt any sig.
file we choose.

Yes. That seems to me to be an important point -- all our
posts, for obvious reasons, contain that url. We give it every time
we suggest someone joins this list, too. When I give it I
sometimes say that though the site is commercial and the list
is very kindly hosted by a commercial firm etc. the list is independent;
but I am nonetheless advertising it.
I am not paying for this particular post, but I do pay for
calls made from home through there, and I have an ISP as
well, and pay for local calls as well as their fees.
I also pay (but I will stop the list of Brit. grouses
there!). I too feel somewhat aggrieved.
