You need both. You cannot have a L2 cache w/o a L1 cache. All pentiums
have a L1 cache built into the chip. Most, but not all, desktop pentium
systems come with an L2 cache. The question comes up more frequently
with notebook computers, which more frequently are supplied without a L2
cache (mainly to save battery life, L2 caches use up more juice).
