Certainly Dragon has meant a lot to the folks who have been here before
this summer, but all of us stand to benefit from the competition that
has only JUST begun. One reality is that Dragon DNS simply won't work
on some sound systems and Dragon doesn't seem to care (wouldn't even
give me a refund) that it wouldn't work on mine. Another reality is
that L&H/Kurzweil (in which I understand Microsoft has invested
recently) is soon to come out with VoiceXpress and VoiceXpress Pro.
It is interesting (and good, I think) that the owner of this list has
apparently also begun to market IBM ViaVoice products along side Dragon
products on its excellent new website. Hopefully, they will become a
source of the VoiceXpress products and candid comments about their pros
and cons also.
Frankly, as a relative newcomer to this list, I have NOT noticed any
anti-IBM sentiment. Rather, I've noticed people who are real interested
in obtaining solutions for their diverse voice recognition needs. I
hope that this list can be a home to all of us who are interested in
solving our own vr problems, as well as in contributing and benefiting
from understanding the challenges and solutions related by others here.
