Judy,
For me, there is no comparison that is fair to be made between
Preferred and Deluxe. If you want custom macro capability, you
need Deluxe. I found going from using Dragon Dictate for years
with its wonderful macro capability to Nat. Personal very
frustrating. Deluxe has given me back much of what Personal
took away. On WordPerfect - I believe that Patch 7 for WPWin 6.1,
available on the Corel website is for both US and UK versions. I
will try to check on this and let you know. Should you upgrade
to WP 8.0? Not on your present computer - like Office 97, it
tries to be all things to all people, offer full net capability,
among other things, which makes it a big, fat hog. While I
certainly prefer ANY version of WordPerfect over ANY version
of Word, I really can find no compelling reason for most people
to upgrade from WP 6.1 to WP 8.0. Corel, tried to make the feel
and appearance of WP 8 more like Word. While some people may like
that, I don't. If you have written custom WP 6.1 macros, for the most
part they will still work in WP 8.0, unless they have either DDE
calls, store data in a .bif file and/or create dialog boxes.
If they do, you would have to
write them all over again. Unlike the different versions of Word,
files saved in WP6.1 work quite well with WP 8.0 and visa versa.
WP 8.0, unlike any version of Word, still has the Reveal Codes
feature, the select sentence by keyboard/command call feature,
you can still create and NAME custom keyboards, everything can
be operated by keyboard/hotkeys - zero mice are required (making it
fairly easy to write voice macros to push the keys for you, it has
true, standard Win 95 Menus (instead of, oddly enough, the non-standard
ones
that are in Office 97 -Word 8) However, if good old WP 6.1 is working
well for you and
you are comfortable with it, I would leave well enough alone. If you
get
the itch to upgrade your Wordprocessor, I would very strongly recommend
WordPerfect 8.0 over Office 97 (Word 8). But, I
certainly would not put myself in the position of having to learn
WP 8.0, Nat Deluxe and Office 97 all at the same time if I weren't
being forced to.
