At a Boston voice users meeting several months ago, Joel Gould
mentioned that systems with the ESS chipset had passed the Dragon
certification tests, and therefore are listed as certified, but they
didn't pass them well. He considers them noisy chipsets, and
personally recommends against them.
Basically Dragon has to list anything that passes the tests at all,
and can't rank between them. I guess they don't want to be in the
business of endorsing one particular manufacturer.
But I am certainly getting reasonable recognition on a laptop with an
ESS chipset myself.
