get speech recognition running on any 500 series or 700, 750, or 755
series laptop (and I have at least a dozen in the department). The ones
that we use for any serious work get docking stations and Fiji cards. Our
lab measurements showed (this is from memory) something on the order of 6
or 7 bits of noise on the thinkpad sound system, only 9 or 10 bits of
usable speech.
I would suggest a PCMCIA soundcard, if you can get card services to work
on your Thinkpad.
