R> The version of the MFC42.dll you need is 4.2.6256.
R> -----------
[smith, I mean snip]
R> 1) If Nat Deluxe needs version (990kb, 4.2.6256) of mfc42.dll, why is
R> Computer "A" now running well since upgrading to Nat Deluxe with a
R> different version (920kb, 4.21.7022) - one that is required by WP 8.0?
I strongly suspect that they mean "4.2.6256 or greater". Mine is
4.21.7160, and I've never had a problem with it, either with
NaturallySpeaking personal or deluxe. Usually, unless a later version
introduces an incompatibility or bug, a later version than the one
specified is just fine. But, they should know to say that.
R> 2) If it is necessary to have version 4.2.6256 of mfc42.dll and if I'm
R> right that the only way to get the correct copy of mfc42.dll for Dragon
R> to intall is to rename the current mfc42.dll to mfc42.old prior to
R> upgrading- why do the upgrade instructions that come with Nat Deluxe not
R> tell you to rename mfc42.dll to mfc42.old before doing the install.
Because they are human, and fallible (NaturallySpeaking: fallow bull),
and don't have the resources of IBM behind them, although they do have
a very good product... (come to think of it, I've seen some
pretty fallible IBM software as well).
R> 3) Assuming that question 2), above, is correct - are there any other
R> dlls that should be renamed prior to upgrading/installing to insure that
R> the correct ones are installed from the CD?
Don't lose sleep over it. Probably not.
R> 4) Is the version of mfc42.dll needed by Nat Deluxe as reported by the
R> person at Tech support (4.2.6256) the correct one and is it really
R> needed or did the support person just do a Find for mfc42.dll and report
R> what was on his system to me?
R> 4) Why the hey does it take 21 days to get a response from Tech support?
Because they are under staffed and overworked at a company that is
growing faster than it can handle. This is why I got out of tech
support at my old company. Unfortunately, it's also a big
contributing factor to why I have a repetitive strain injury.
... they're just across the river from me. I know a lot of people
who work there. People keep asking me, why don't you try for a job at
Dragon. Ha!
R> What am I missing?
you're trying to find sanity in an insane and chaotic world. Please
let me know if you do.
R> Still Confused Rose
Still looking, Patricia.
