I teach CS, and I have an engineering PhD in electromagnetics.
So if you were looking for something from people like me then
the essential answer you will get will be something like this:
I don't think that there will be any arguments that if you
bought the fastest clock speed cpu (about 300 MHz right now and
probably about 450 MHz soon) with about 128 MB RAM
that you will have any problems from that end. That only
leaves the sound-card (according to those who have tested them)
and the microphone (again according to those who tested them).
And these things have been discussed on this list since I joined
so the recommendations made are all I have to go on and ditto
for you, I guess.
