There are a number of motherboards for old-style Pentium chips which
don't use the TX chipset. Some have virtually all the goodies of the
new Pentium II motherboards. There are a few currently in production
which will cache more than 64MB of memory. There are a few which will
cache up to 255 MB depending on how the caching is setup in the bios.

I don't know what the pricing is like in the UK but as a U.S. resident
I would definitely purchase a Pentium II if I were buying a new
system.

Price Watch is probably the best search engine for hardware on the
net. But when it comes to software and CPUs I prefer ComputerESP at
http://www.computeresp.com/. It provides pricing information on boxed
CPUs as well as tray CPUs. Boxed Pentium II 233 chips are now cheaper
than Pentium Classic 233 boxed chips. I believe Intel is trying to
kill the market for new systems with anything but Pentium II chips.
