I'm a long-time DD user [programming and email, UNIX and a2x]. I had
played with Nat, but didn't take much notice of it until I received the
Deluxe edition, which supports the construction of voice macros, much [I
think] as DD 3.0 does. This is because I was satisfied with DD 3.0, it
takes less memory, and much of what I do is naturally isolated word
recognition anyway.
Recently my work PC was "upgraded" to a Pentium Pro, and DD 3.0 now runs
HORRIBLY slowly. I suspect this is due to the PPro's weakness at 16 bit
software like DD. So I need to migrate my macros to Nat [which works
fine on my PPro], before I go crazy waiting for DD. I realize that Nat
doesn't recognize different Windows apps the way DD does, but I spend
most of my time dictating into a telnet window anyway, so this isn't an
issue. I switch manually between vocabulary groups since I use UNIX and
a2x.
I added a macro to Nat, and saw that it ended up in a file named
GLOBAL.DVC in a sort of C-language form. So before I write a program to
convert all my lovingly crafted `add-word [foo] "bar" /nr /c /p'
statements to however Nat wants it, a couple of questions:
1. Is there any documentation for this GLOBAL.DVC file, or do I need to
pick it up from the entries Dragon ships? I've read Joel Gould's _very_
helpful page [http://people.ne.mediaone.net/gould/natspeak-faq.html] but
it doesn't cover this. I have looked at the help file for Nat, and it
seems just to describe how to make command and control macros using the
Wizard.
2. Has anybody written a conversion program (DD macros to Nat)?
3. Any comments on the flexibility of Nat macros vs. DD macros?
4. Does anyone think there's a chance :-) of Dragon releasing a
completely 32 bit version of DD?
Thanks,
Chris
