Rose: Excellent idea. I will only talk about my experience with Dragon, but I hope we hear from Kurzweil and IBM VT users as well. Things that I notice deteriorates voice files over time: * variations in speech and environment (e.g., moving voice files between a quiet home office to a noisy workplace); * periodically getting bad sinus/allergy attacks and trying to use the same voice file as when sinuses are clear; * inconsistant voice projections (sometimes muttering;sometimes projecting; raising one's voice when Dragon misrecongizes (just like we do with children <g>); and varying the distance between mike and mouth (especially common with desk mike users). This, of course, is in addition to the more obvious problems: * not consistantly correcting misrecognitions by correcting both the word it misrecognized and the word it offers. * not teaching environmental sounds that are distracting to Dragon. * changing mikes midstream or changing to a mike that is not compatible with the sound card. I encourage vr users to keep a "notes" document [WORD or WP] open while working with any vr program, switching to that document to document anything [even slightly] "strange" with the vr program. Often we ignore the little hints these programs give us because we get so focused on completing our work.. But if we just dictate a few words into the notes document, over time we will see definite clues as to why our voice files are getting corrupted. Eydie DeVincenzi
