I didn't spend $220 on a new sound card (to > replace my half-duplex card) just for the fun of it. Thanks. This is Molly's husband, Mark, again. I don't really have a lot of info on the AWE64, but this may help: The AWE64 actually has 32-notes as a hardware synth (similar to the EMU8000 chip of the AWE32) and 32-notes synthesized in real-time by the CPU. Along with some special propietary stuff, this software synth uses the wave-out device. There is a extra level of the MIDI mapper if you select the AWE64 Creative MIDI (or whatever) as the default MIDI. This extra level "transparently" maps MIDI events to hardware and software MIDI synths. Some ideas: 1. If the Creative-MIDI-Mapper is set to use both, then the wave-out device will be in use whenever the MIDI is playing. 2. The card also has the ability to "remix" wave sounds (I think), like adding tremolo, etc. to ALL output and not just the MIDI synthesized in the EMU8000 chip (like the AWE32). HOWEVER, I believe this makes full use the full-duplex of the card (i.e. both DMA channels, and wave-in & wave-out). So if this was on, just playing a wave or MIDI, the wave-in device would not be available. Try to turn this off in the AWE564 control panel. Since this is the holiday season, the wait-times can be pretty high (have seen them ~1 hour durign the afternoon). So, call them in the morning or late-night for best response. 405-742-6622 (Computer Help System -- probably nothing about AWE64 here yet) 405-742-6655 Straight into the queues for Tech. Support.
