LawTALK for Windows is a speech recognition productivity tool that allows legal professionals to use the full potential of their computers simply by speaking in plain language. LawTALK’s intuitive voice commands for dictation, navigation, command and control, and formatting are easy to learn and use. LawTALK offers the user voice access to a wide variety of software applications in the three leading office suites from Microsoft^®, Novell/WordPerfect^®, and Lotus^®.

Easy to learn and use

The LawTALK user does not have to know how to type or how to use specific computer software. Instead of memorizing unfamiliar keystrokes or working through a series of pull-down menus, the user can say simple commands such as "print document." Since these voice commands are consistent across applications, LawTALK maximizes application independence, allowing the user to become productive quickly with many applications.

LawTALK helps reduce dependency on support staff by eliminating the lengthy dictation cycle. The user can dictate directly to the computer and complete documents in real time. With LawTALK , the user’s thoughts are instantly translated into actions. Real time document delivery means that time-sensitive business documents are delivered to clients faster and with less cost and effort than ever before.

Designed by practicing attorneys

LawTALK offers many legal features such as strikeout and redline. LawTALK includes over 25,000 words and phrases chosen carefully to reflect the requirements of a broad range of legal practice. Users can create their own voice commands to retrieve phrases, standard legal paragraphs and even entire forms.

VoiceCompanion^® Voice Commands

The user can perform actions within software applications by saying VoiceCompanion’s intuitive voice commands. Because each command carries out a series of operations, users can perform many actions more quickly by voice than by mouse and keyboard alone. To the user, these operations appear as a single command.

VoiceCompanion Cue Cards

VoiceCompanion cue cards offer a list of available commands to assist new users in learning how to interact with LawTALK. VoiceCompanion takes the user through a quick step-by-step process which completes the command and teaches the user simultaneously. As the user becomes more familiar with the voice commands available, he or she can simply speak the command phrase instead of using the cue cards.

Address Book

The Address Book manages the user’s contact information. With a few simple voice commands, the user can search, browse, merge and add addresses, telephone numbers and other data. In addition, the Address Book can import/export data to and from popular packages such as Lotus Organizer^®, Act!^® and GoldMine^(TM), (as well as to and from any standard comma-delimited format).

Legal and Business Templates

LawTALK’s specialized voice templates for legal documents (including pleading paper, statement of claim, and lease templates) and for commonly-used business documents allow the user to create complex documents with a polished look. Users can easily enter "voice markers" to voice-activate their own existing forms or design new ones. LawTALK’s templates come with a "marker hint" box which prompts users as to what information to enter when they move from voice marker to voice marker.

LawTALK’s voice templates work in conjunction with the Address Book’s merge capability to minimize time spent on tasks like addressing a letter. Additionally, the "merge-only-once" facility requires the user to merge information only into the first of a series of templates. As the user opens up additional templates, necessary information from the same record is merged automatically into the additional templates. For example, the user can say "create letter" and merge the appropriate address. Once the letter is complete, the user can say "create envelope" and information from the same contact’s record is inserted automatically into the envelope.

LawTALK includes voice access for searching the leading online legal and business news database research services including:

WESTMATE^® for Windows, for searching WESTLAW® databases and news services;
WESTCheck^® for Windows for citation checking and verification through WESTLAW;
LEXIS^®-NEXIS^® for Windows with access to all LEXIS-NEXIS legal and news libraries and databases;
CheckCite^(TM) for citation checking and verification through LEXIS-NEXIS;
QUICKLINK^(TM) for Windows for working with QUICKLAW^(TM) and QUICKCITE^(TM) online legal research services.

LawTALK features a comprehensive English dictionary including commonly-used business terms. Users can attain high recognition rates. Using LawTALK's correction facility, 100 percent accuracy is achieved.
