Kurzweil Voice Freqently Asked Questions

System Requirements

  • How much memory do I need to run Kurzweil VOICE for Windows?

For the 30,000 word vocabulary option, you need 8 MB of DEDICATED RAM.

For the 60,000 word vocabulary option, you need 16 MB of DEDICATED RAM.

Note: This does not include the memory required for Windows applications and the operating system. For Windows 95 you will need a total of 16MB of RAM for a 30,000 word vocabulary; or a total of 24MB for a 60,000 word vocabulary. For Windows 3.1, you will need a total of 12-16 MB or 20-24MB of RAM for the 30,000 word vocabulary or 60,000 word vocabulary, respectively.

  • What is DEDICATED RAM?

RAM dedicated to Kurzweil VOICE for Windows is the random access memory required in addition to the RAM required for your Windows applications and operating system.

  • My system is slow when I run Kurzweil VOICE for Windows; what can I do to remedy this?

Verify that you have adequate memory (RAM) for the vocabulary installed. (Refer to question #1.)

It is recommended that you install a 18-30 MB permanent swap file. A swap file larger then 30 MB may cause a decrease in the response time. Windows 95 will allocate the appropriate swap file size; however, you must have enough disk space available for Windows to allocate space for this file size.

Check your system configuration to make sure it is correct

    Check SmartDrive under Windows 3.1.
