In general, with what types of hardware are these products compatible? Hardware Compatibility lists are available for: Dragon Dictate
Are there any voice recognition products compatible with a Macintosh? Yes, Power Secretary. Unfortunately at this time there are no other large vocabulary systems for the Apple environment.
Can these products be run on a ZIP drive or a JAZ drive? Yes, as long as they are in proper format, with DOS partitions, etc. (However, because they are more tempermental, please back up your voice profile more regularly)
Technical Aspects: Compatibility; Software
Can these programs be used with my particular software? Most of our programs are compatible with most major wordprocessing, spreadsheet and database programs. These include Microsoft Office, Novell Perfect Office, and Lotus Smart Suite. Are any programs compatible with Windows NT? Yes. Dragon Dictate 2.5 Dragon Dictate has a well written press release regarding the benefits of Dragon Dictate 2.5
You say that these programs are compatible with multiple software programs. How well integrated is it with the various applications? For some applications specific vocabularies are available. For others it simply emulates keystrokes. Others take full advantage of the API when available.
Is there a DOS version of voice recognition software? YES, Dragon Dictate is offered in DOS  . Please specify DOS if ordering as the overwhelming majority of our sales are Windows.
Technical Aspects - Function related, e.g. Tell me about the product
How large a vocabulary is available? Each of the end-user products we sell has a vocabulary of between 10,000 and 60,000 words. Most of the programmer's tools' vocabulary are 1000 - 2000 words. We have tabulated all of our voice recognition products by vocabulary size. Please see our Vocabulary Table for details.
Can I add my own words to the vocabulary, and if so, how many? Yes, each product has it's own specifics. However, each product sold allows the user to add their own voice enabled vocabulary to a greater or lesser extent. We have tabulated all of our voice recognition products by vocabulary size. Can I add macros and forms to the product, and if so, how many? Yes, each of our products allows you to add macros to simplify your work.
How fast can I dictate immediately out of the box? The voice recognition software products which are currently shipping are speaker independant. That means that they are useful immediately upon setting them up. There is significant individual variation. Please do not expect to be very productive your first hour or two. Thereafter 50 - 70 Words per minute is a reasonable expectation before becoming expert. .
How fast can I dictate once I become an experienced user? This varies from one program to another. However, each of the major programs should allow for between a 70 - 100 word per minute dictation rate once you have adequately trained it.
What is the fastest you have heard people dictating? We have actually dictated at 21st Century Eloquence as fast as 120 words per minute, and have heard of 150 words per minute. However, I wouldn't count on over 100 WPM

Is it useful for my specific Occupation? We are working on a comprehensive list of succesful Voice Recognition users. In the interim, please note that physicians in almost every specialty, attorneys in all fields, and business people in most businesses have used one of the voice recognition products productively. Disability Related - For which disabilities is it helpful
Blind If you are using Jaws Screen Reader, you can successfully use it with Dragon Dictate. This configuration is not supported, but it does in-fact work well.
Deaf Sorry, this is currently unavailable, unless the speaker has close to a normal speech pattern.
Quadriplegic, paraplegic Dragon Dictate was specifically designed for the disability market initially and can be run completely hands free using functions including the mouse grid.
RSD (Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) We have a number of RSD sufferers successfully using Dragon Dictate as well as Kurzweil Voice for Windows.
RSI (Repetitive Stress Injuries) We have a number of RSI sufferers successfully using Dragon Dictate as well as Kurzweil Voice for Windows.
CTS (Carpal Tunnel Syndrome) We have a number of CTS sufferers successfully using Dragon Dictate as well as Kurzweil Voice for Windows.
Spelling impaired These tools are excellent for those who have difficulty spelling. They are particularly useful for school-aged children in the production of school reports.
Non English Speaking Users
Do these programs come in languages other than English? Yes. Dragon Dictate is available in: U.S. English, U.K. English, Spanish, French, German, and IBM is available in: English and Spanish
Will it understand my accent? Yes. Except under Very unusual circumstances, accents merely degrade the initial comprehension level to some extent. They do not impair the long term usage.

Over the telephone No. Sorry, not yet.
To record a conversation No. Sorry, not yet.

Can I receive the product today? Sorry, the fastest is tomorrow. If you order before 1 pm and we have your item in stock (we have most items in stock) we will make every attempt to get it to our shipper the same day as your order.
Can I see an on screen demo? Yes. Dragon Dictate has provided demos in multiple languages.
Can I get a demo tape? These are available in certain situations. Please call 1-800-245-2133 to discuss.
Can I get a demo product? Probably not. These are now software only products, and therefore are not returnable. However, if you are a re-seller or consultant, please call us at 1-800-245-2133
Can I return it if I don't like it? Not unless prior arrangements are made for some particularly special reason. Software, in general, in not-returnable. Please see 21st Century Eloquence Policies.
Upgrade questions
Can I upgrade to a more costly item?
Can I upgrade to a more recent edition?
Should I upgrade to a more recent edition? Absolutely. The more current edition of (Dragon, Kurzweil, IBM) is substantially better, including quicker and more accurate comprehension, than are the older versions.
What are the costs of upgrading to a more recent edition?
Continuous Speech
When will Continuous Speech systems be available? No earlier than 1st Quarter 1997
Can I play an audio tape directly into the system? No. This will be possible only with some of the more advanced Continuous Speech systems, not expected for at least a few years.
If I purchase a discrete speech product, can I upgrade to a continuous speech product when it becomes available? Yes, if you purchase it from 21st Century Eloquence. Please see our detailed policy describing our unique upgrade path toward continuous speech.
Printed Material
Do you have printed material available on these products? Yes, we do. However, there is no information in our printed material that is not also available on our website. Our website is substantially more complete than is our file of papers. Should you wish to have printed material for a specific purpose, such as to use as a sales tool if you are a re-seller, please contact us and we will attempt to provide it to you.
Overseas Sales
Do you sell your products overseas? Yes, with some exceptions. Please contact us with your specific request if you are outside of the United States.
What are the shipping costs overseas? They vary, but as an estimate you can calculate approximately $40 - $75.

Shipping / Delivery Questions
What is your shipping policy? We have most items in stock most of the time. We attempt to ship all items ordered prior to 1pm on the same day. We offer free standard UPS ground shipping for Internet orders. Next day and 2nd day air are available at an extra cost. Please see our policies for more details.
What is the cost for overseas shipping? This must be answered individually. However, as a rough estimate, you might figure on approximately $40 - $75 depending upon the country and speed of delivery.
