In my opinion, yes, with some exceptions.

First, let me state I am a medical transcriptionist of 35+ years of experience and a legal transcriptionist/electronic court reporter of 10 years. I began watching the progress of voice recognition about five years ago. Last summer, I saw that Dragon's NS Professional was indeed going to put me out of business. That's when I decided to sell D-NS to legal and medical professionals.

That being said, there are some exceptions. Those are, most notably, physicians who majored in medicine rather than English. The two worst problem areas for physicans seem to be subject-verb agreement and keeping sentence structure parallel.

Professionals who have good grammar, proofreading, and editing skills may not need further assistance. Those whose skills are slightly less than perfect will need some kind of "scopist", i.e., someone who will proof on screen and lightly edit the dictated material. Lawyers will undoubtedly use their legal assistants for this since they are schooled in proofreading and grammar. Physicians, on the other hand, may not have someone in their office and may need to turn to an outside service. The charges for this service, however, will be much less than that currently paid by most professionals.

I have been toying with the idea of setting up just such a service and would like to hear from anyone interested in it.
