Bill, I'm looking for some of the same information that you are regarding recognition in programming environments. I'm a DragonDictate user and have had a very difficult time getting Dragon to work effectively in VB. I'm stuck with writing my all of my own macros and training many words. I've have been looking at IBM's ViaVoice products because they seem to offer many add-on products for programmers including libraries for Java, C++ and VB. Please keep me informed on anything you find and I'll do the same. Also, I'm going to try to find out if DragonDictate and ViaVoice can coexist on my machine. If so, I'll use ViaVoice for all of my coding and Dragon for everything else. Regarding "command and control" of your desktop, I've been using DragonDictate for over a year and it works pretty well for navigation, Dragon NaturallySpeaking is really good for large dictations but I don't use it for anything other than that. I highly recommend DragonDictate for navigation and for most applications such as Word, Excel, etc. I even do my mainframe programming with it but it doesn't work well at all in more visual programming environments.
Good luck!
