O Level Exam and voice recognition

Please can anyone help me. I have to do my O level exam on the subject of voice recognition next week. I have to give a talk and show some pictures. As I don't know much on the subject I looked on the internet, but there was so much information that I became confused. Could you give me some pointers or a summary of what Voice Recognition is? I would be SO GRATEFUL as am getting desperate. Thankyou.
