Experience:
1991-Present Total Automation Concepts, Kemblesville, PA
Software Developer

 Designed, developed and marketed RayScan, a fully functional thermoscanner interface product that provides serial interface to a Raytek MP4. This product gathers up to 256 temperature readings every several seconds, displays the data in the form of a thermograph and has the option of logging the data to an Access or SQL database either locally or on a remote server.
 Designed developed and in the process of marketing VoiceLink 2000, a voice activated wireless inventory control program, written in C++ and Visual Basic, that allows customers to take in-store inventory using a voice activated computer and a hand held scanner. This system should significantly reduce inventory errors while improving productivity.
 Co-developed a semi-automatic batching system. A major manufacturer of specialty polymer products needed to close the loop on their manual batching system to increase their product consistency and track quality in accordance with ISO 9002 standards. Since this product required tight production tolerances, the customer decided to upgrade their PLC system, integrate their production batch scales into the batch sequencing and link the batch controller/supervisory system to their plant wide production scheduling system. A GE 90-70 PLC with a Wonderware operator interface was used to develop the batch system and integrate the digital scales into the closed loop process. Since the initial project, a SQL batch event log was developed to track production events and errors to provide a trail of events leading up to production problems. Languages used: Visual Basic, Visual C++, SQL 6.5, RLL and C++.

1985-1989 Allen-Bradley Company, Wilmington DE
Software Developer/Application Engineer

 Automated Batch Control System – Lipton Tea, Independence, MO: Worked with an engineering team of this large producer of instant beverages who needed a flexible automated batching system that would allow for regional variations in dilution qualities of their products. The solution entailed an upgrade of their PLC-2s to PLC-5s to take advantage of the increased communications and PID processing capabilities. Both Fincor and A-B drives provided close loop production feed control for batching and precipitated drying and a six node Wonderware operator interface system provided batch handling, historian, and batch record generation functions. Using Pathworks, this system was able to pass necessary quality and error data to a DEC VAX for SPC/SQC analysis.
 Bulk Powder Handling System – Maxwell House – Hoboken, NJ: This large coffee processing company was upgrading their bulk ground coffee handling system to minimize moisture contamination, eliminate spillage due to routing errors and increase throughput to their newly installed packaging lines. This application used an A-B Vista 2000 system, that was under utilized, and, with some system reconfiguration, the operators were able to access additional production data and incorporate real time data into their production reports. By adding additional PLC-3s to open up the data path from the production PLCs to the Vista system, the data throughput rate was tripled.
 Coordinated Drive System for a Web Process – Dupont Tyvek, Richmond, VA: The market demand for this customer's products forced this customer to revamp his web bonding process to eliminate a production bottleneck, increasing volumetric throughput and improving quality. Due to the complex nature of the process and the outdated documentation our design team performed a production audit to determine the optimum operating parameters and then designed a control system that would control within those optimum standard operation conditions. By developing several custom high performance interfaces to the existing Avtron drives and newly installed Moore single loop controllers, we were able to provide a real time production batch execution system that could operate asynchronously of the customers main frame production control and tracking system.
 Rotogravure Printing Line Control System: This Major OEM of printing equipment wanted to revamp a multi-color lithographic rotogravure printing line by replacing the original line shaft system with a coordinated AC Drive line consisting of 27 sections in a master/slave draw mode configuration. The customer rebuilt the press and associated equipment to original specifications. Allen-Bradley PLC-5s and 1392 Vector Control drives were installed in accordance to our design. This new control system allowed for shorter tread-up and reduced breakage than that of the old mechanical line with a tighter adherence to stretch tolerance. Using Wonderware, the PLC's production and reporting information was printed in report form at the end of each run. The second phase of the project entailed integration an Itran vision system to detect registration errors. The customer wishes to perform 100% visual inspection as the next phase to the vision integration.

1983-1985 Honeywell, York, PA and Chicago, IL
Programmer/Application Engineer

 Worked with General Motors, Ingersol, a large OEM of transfer line machinery, and Honeywell corporate engineering to develop and deploy machine diagnostic systems. Required development of C and Basic09 programs and routines in the OS9 operating system for both operational and GUI functionality.
 Provided customer support and field startup service worldwide.

1981-1983 All-Control Systems, Inc., West Chester, PA
Electrical Technician/Design Draftsman

 Designed, programmed and troubleshot complete custom control systems, as well as assumed responsibilities for procurement of all necessary materials and equipment.
 Designed and developed various microprocessor based control systems and signal conditioners for filling machinery
