Subject: Looking for a good, cheap wireless microphone?
Message:
Is anyone out there looking for a good, cheap wireless microphone? Last week my Shure wireless
microphone system stopped working. Fortunately I was testing a hand-held microphone from radio shack
(which incidentally cost $50 and is the exact same microphone sold by Shure for $85 as their computer
hand-held microphone), so I had something to use. Since the before mentioned microphone from radio shack
worked so well I decided to try a wireless system from radio shack. The transmitter and receiver cost $99, and
the small tie clip microphone I brought for it was $35. I use a sip and puff wheelchair, so I run the small
microphone up the sip and puff tube. You can plug any microphone into the transmitter though. My run
through the audio setup Wizard gave the only average results in sound quality and a very low sound level. I
already had the volume on the receiver turned 3/4 of the way up, so I enabled the boost on my sound card
(Sound Blaster PCI 128/Ensoniq PCI). The next test resulted in above-average to
excellent results in sound quality and a good sound level. I've tested the microphone from as far as 50 feet
and it worked very well. Many of the products that radio shack are made by name brand manufacturers and
relabeled by radio shack, so they can sell them at prices below the manufactures retail. The wireless system
does not come with the wire to connect the receiver to the computer. You can purchase one direct from
Shure and have it shipped to you for about $15. If the system works this well with an omnidirectional
microphone that is not noise canceling, I can only imagine the results with a high-quality noise canceling
headset microphone.
My system is a Pentium 233 with 128 MB of SDRAM with a Sound Blaster PCI 128 sound card.
The wireless microphone system Is an 0ptimus Professional Wireless Audio Link System.
