Voice recognition software development

I am a student at a university in england. I have been given the job of developing some software in c to control a speech recognition hardware (to recognise 5 words) that uses three filters and an a/d convertor. Is it possible for anyone to tell me where the best place to find examples of such software (on the web preferably) would be?
