Voice reco: Suitable enough for a search engine?

So I had the idea (although I know I'm not the only one)
of a search engine that could peruse sound documents (WAV,
MP3, AIFF, etc.) for specific phrases. I know Dragon has
created technology to do just this but I was also thinking
of a technology that could search also across songs.
I'm sure this technology is years ahead but I wuz wondering
if anyone had heard of research being done in this area.
