Hello:
I am trying to install DragonDictate on a Dell Computer at work. The computer has a built-in soundcard on the motherboard.
The DragonDictate keeps saying that the volume is too low.
I am using an Andrea ANC-700 microphone.
The sound coming out of the computer is very clear and loud.
I checked the connection thoroughly, tried connecting without the additional plug that is in series with the microphone line. It did not seem to make a difference.
What could be wrong?
Comments are appreciated.
Ahmet

The reported volume settings for ANC mics are typically low, but actually work fine when dictating. Ignore the message and keep on going.

I tried ignoring the message. However, DragonDictate won't let me.
I then tested the microphone for simple voice recording on two other computers.
I am discovering that I am not able to get any voice recorded with this ANC-700.
I have not tried changing the batteries yet, but would exhausted batteries affect the performance?

you may have a defective mike (but try changing ther batteries). What happens when you use the mike that came bundled with the program?

Hello Judy:
Thanks for your reply.
I have two other microphones. One of them is the one that came bundled with the software. They both worked fine with the two computers that I have at home. It is these two computers that have problems with the ANC-700.
I am also thinking that it might be a defective microphone.

It certainly sounds like it. I suggest you return it to the retailer

Oops,
Ahmet sorry, best try changing the batteries first! -- though you should get some recording without them, it's best to make sure before returning the mike.
I am a bit puzzled by what's happening here; so am not prepared to say the integrated sound card on the Dell is also a problem. But it could be; so try the two other mikes with that, also. (What kind of mikes are they?) And try seeing if you can record a file with the ANC on that.
Also try the ANC again with the Dell, using one of the other mikes to get you past the initial enrolment stage.
