Full Version: How To Stop Dragon From Leaving The Page

I own a series of websites and I write a lot of content for them. Dragon is absolutely phenomenal and helps in a big way.

The one thing that drives me nuts about it is when in the course of my dictation, I say a word and all of a sudden the cursor takes off somewhere else on my computer screen. Obviously the software finds those words somewhere else on my screen, like in my open bookmarks or in other tabs I have open in Firefox, and will actually open up that site. Definitely not what I want to happen.

Or it will find those same words that are already in my content and it won't type them again.

Is there some way that I can fix this in the settings? There must be a way to turn this off. I just want my cursor to stay exactly where it's at and type the words I dictate as I dictate them and not jump around on my computer screen.

Thanks.

A faint possibility perhaps, but could it be that Dragon is interpreting some of your speech as a command rather than text? Have you adjusted the length of the pause required before a command?

Tools>Options>Commands. Move the slider along to allow for a longer pause between text and command.

Hi Joe,

That actually makes sense to me. I've set it at the max pause of 1 second. I also noticed a box that says "Require click to select menus and controls". I checked that as well. I'll play around with those settings and we'll see if that does the trick.

Thanks for your help. I'll let you know how it works out.

With respect to Joe and Marty, this problem has nothing to do with changing the settings in the Pause required before commands although we typically recommend moving the slider towards the right to the 2nd hashmark for an entirely different reason, which has to do with dictating numbers.

However, it would appear that Chicago Bob has already found the solution we were going to recommend. We always suggest putting a checkmark in Require click to select hyperlinks in HTML Windows and Require click to select menus and controls because it's just too easy to accidentally deploy an unwanted command; especially in HTML Windows which, in many cases, change on a daily basis. When it comes to HTML Windows, even saying part of a hyperlink name can cause NaturallySpeaking to click on the link. This question has also come up numerous times on the KnowBrainer Speech Recognition Forums which experiences more traffic than any other speech recognition forum.

That's exactly what it was. I'm all set now. Thanks a lot guys.
