Full Version: Can't turn off Software manager!

I do not want the software manager running constantly in the background of my computer. I see the instructions to turn it off, but for the life of me I can't find where "Settings" is. It doesn't seem to be in Dragon Naturally Speaking. I don't see a separate program for the software manager. How do I turn this off? I particularly don't want to get notices about the other products this company makes.

WHERE DO I FIND "SETTINGS?"

How do I stop update notices from appearing?
Stop notices for one product update level

1.Click Settings. The Your Update Settings screen is displayed.
2.Select a product update level you wish to stop receiving update notices for.
3.Click Manually in the scheduling options.
4.Click Apply to silence all update notices for that update level.
Stop notices for all products
1.Click the Stop automatic update checking for all products checkbox.

How do I retrieve an update that I previously made disappear?
1.In the Updates view, click Restore Hidden Updates.
2.If you previously selected an update and clicked don’t show this update again, it will appear.
3.Select the update you wish to restore.
4.Click Restore.

How do I view the updates that I have already installed?
1.In the Updates view, click View your history.
2.A list of products managed by the Software Manager is displayed.
3.Select a product, and expand it to view the updates that have been installed, failed to install, or were cancelled.

The 1st thing you should do is update your user profile or postings to let us know what specific flavor and version of NaturallySpeaking you are using. “Dragon NaturallySpeaking” simply isn't enough information. It helps us to know exactly what product you are using. Example, NaturallySpeaking Pro 7.3, Dragon DNS Medical 10.1 etc.. Since we don't know what product you are using, we will assume you are using Preferred 10 with the service release patch.

We believe you are looking for the Administrative Settings menu which you will find under the DNS Tools menu. The reason why it is currently grayed out is because you are not permitted to access this utility until you close your user profile which you can accomplish by selecting Close User under the NaturallySpeaking menu. (Dragon menu in DNS Medical 10).

If you occasionally visit the speech recognition forums, you might want to disable the automatic updates because as strange as it sounds, you cannot obtain the latest version of NaturallySpeaking through the updates. You can always manually update NaturallySpeaking via the help menu but the current update only upgrades you to Ver. 10.0 SP1 while the latest version of NaturallySpeaking is Ver. 10.1. Note that if you're using DNS Medical or Legal 10 you will need to contact Nuance directly or a NaturallySpeaking Partner.

Thank you. I'm using DNS 9.5. I went to the Tools>>Administrative Settings, but the only option there is Miscellaneous, where to save the backup files. I can't find anything about the Software Manager.

To our knowledge, NaturallySpeaking has no “Software Manager”. However, if you're asking about how to turn off the Automatic Update Features you will find a step-by-step in the NaturallySpeaking Quick Tips at the top of every page on the KnowBrainer Speech Recognition Forums when you look up “update”.

For the purposes of this question, DNS 9.5 is enough information but in the future, it's often helpful if we know EXACTLY what flavor of DNS 9.5 you're using IE Standard, Preferred, Professional 9.5 etc.

This Software Manager seems to have been installed with DNS 9.5 Preferred. It loads on boot-up of the computer and periodically opens little messages about updating the software or installing some new software they are selling. It's a huge pain. I found their instructions to turn it off, but they don't make sense.
