I was wondering if anyone would care to provide your experience with any of the various Grundig digital recorders?

Thanks!

Grundig makes some impressive microphones like the new Grundig Digta CordEx USB 2.4 wireless handheld microphone but most members of this forum post with questions rather than regularly participating in group discussions. There doesn’t seem to be much information on the Grundig Diga X415I recorder and the only picture we could find was on a disconnected link on a UK site which wouldn’t allow us to magnify it. After not being able to find a picture we were only able to find one vendor so even if this recorder is great; we seriously doubt they will be able to compete against the 2 current reigning giants which are Olympus and Philips who all but revolutionized the digital recorder world when Olympus introduced the new DS2 algorithms and licensed the technology to Phillips.

Having fully tested the Digta range of digital recorders we have received excellent results both in terms of the quality of recording, easy of use and versatility with Dragon NaturallySpeaking.

As standard the Digta range comes complete with Digtasoft software, allowing you to move audio files between users by either the use of a network or your email facility dependant of the level of software. The software also gives the facility to have audio files transcribed by the use of Dragon NaturallySpeaking. This is achieved without the need to open Dragon and has the facility to be able to correct the voice file from within the Digtasoft transcription window.

If you are just starting out with a Digital Recorder and Dragon it is worth installing the Digtasoft One software as this is a download, playback and transcription tool only.

We are currently using a Digta 420 within a business environment which gives me a high end password and encryption facility on the audio files, as you move down the Digta range e.g. the 415, 410 & 405 these features are not available and the audio recording time is reduced e.g. 4.20 = 20 Hours of internal recording time, 415 = 15 Hours of internal recording time etc. It should be noted however that some models do have an SD card slot.

In short, we find this range, easy to use, reliable, and excellent in terms of voice recognition.

We agree that the Grundig 415 and 420 is an impressive professional digital recorder which, like the Philips 9600, licenses the DSS Pro algorithms from Olympus and we also liked the unique color screen but when comparing other features such as the 26 hour battery life, dual internal memory options, multifunction programmable buttons and the impressive DSS Player Pro software (which Olympus has had over a decade to perfect) we felt that the slightly lower-priced Olympus DS-5000 gave our clients more bang for the buck so we opted not to carry the Grundig line. The other problem with the Grundig is not the manufacturer's fault but they're simply not as well-known or popular as Olympus. This is probably the same reason why the Grundig (Philip SpeechMike like) microphones aren't nearly as popular because they are also high quality.
