WISH: There's quite a few commands that some users will never use, so we need the option to add a customized list of specific IGNORED/ACCEPTED commands in a DRAGON.INI file, instead of having them permanently built-in without our say-so.
With such customization, pesky commands like COMPOUND THAT or NO SPACE ON could be handily kept under specific user control. --An easier alternative for users, would be to just add a couple of pages to the Dragon OPTIONS menu, listing all optional commands with a check-box next to each command. That way the user could quickly turn each command on or off without leaving the program. Many benefits could be had by such a feature. As long as purely essential commands stay off the list, I don't see any liabilities. Please empower your users. Tom Swanson |

What about a global options function with which you could set options for all your users? It would be great if this could also include elements like default font size and other tweaks that now have to be done through the options.ini files.

Improved stability. There are about 20 Windows applications I run on a regular basis and DNS is BY FAR the least stable/flakiest of the bunch. Ugh.
"All Caps On" in Spell Mode. The ability to be on a fast network connection (not on a router) and use DNS at the same time. This may be an impossible request given the way DNS appears to work; Still, if it's possible... I *need* it. More than 20 items allowed in a macro list. Or if only 20 is allowed, then by golly, LIMIT the user from putting more than 20 in so his/her voice files don't get corrupted. An unlimited number of items allowed in one's Start Menu/desktop... Because of the warnings in my log file, I had to take out A LOT of items... And my Start Menu is now virtually useless. A better automatic voice backup system. One backup isn't enough if your voice files have gotten corrupted, and hard drive space is cheap, so why not have an automatic system that has multiple backups (say, 10 backups) so you can go a couple backups before DNS crashed and corrupted your user files? FWIW, I asked Scansoft about becoming a beta tester (I'm a programmer; I've found a number of repeatable bugs which, if fixed, could make DNS soooooooo much better) and they said they currently don't have a beta testing program open... Which indicates to me that the features for DNS 7 have already been decided upon. Maybe this list would be good for DNS 8 (if 7 doesn't take care of these issues). Hello Tom:
Thank you for your recommendations on pique, peak, and peek. I not only consulted the dictionary, but I went so far as to ring up Marrianne Webster a friend of mine who is a linguistic. She also was quite interested in this third possible variation "pique" which you have discovered. She consulted several lexicon sources and finally came to a ruling for me. (1) she assured me that most words have only one variation and very infrequently do they have two variations. It is an extraordinary rarity for a word to have three variations. However we have the three variations in the word "rain", i.e. a sprinkle, a shower and a downpour. (2) we were also quite suspicious of your variation "pique". It appeared to have a foreign origin. Upon further examination she found that yes it was of "French" origin. Well as we know the French never pronounce words the way they are written. So your term "pique" would not be pronounced with a final "k" as in peak or peek. But as the French would say it would be either "pea" or "pee". So, good try Tom. It appears we'll have to stick with only two variations of the word peak or peek. This is certainly rarefied enough for me. Thanks for your assistance, Jim [This message has been edited by jnuttallphd (edited 02-26-2003).] [This message has been edited by jnuttallphd (edited 02-26-2003).] -------------------- Jim -- Michigan

Jim,
>So your term "pique" would not be pronounced with a final "k" as in peak or peek. But as the French would say it would be either "pea" or "pee". Mais non! C'est une forme da la verbe piquer - ce qu'on prononce "peekay" et se sert la même fonction que la verbe exciter. Gotta watch your French on this forum! Since this has piqued your interest, get ready to try and purchase DNS 6 at sellout prices and then buy the upgrade! On the other hand, why don't you wait and see if you like the reviews. They will not all be good. John |

Hello John:
J'étais excédent passionnant. Je calmerai vers le bas. Vous donnez de bons conseils. Je lirai les revues. Mon épouse est un professeur français et un chef. Je peux seulement demander le "chocolat, svp". J'aime mon DNS6, ainsi je ne sauterai pas à DNS7 bientôt. Merci pour le conseil sur le Français et les ordinateurs. Veuillez excuser toutes les mauvaises plaisanteries au sujet de Français. Je plaisantais seulement avec Tom. Thanks for you sound advice. Hi CB
Transaltion from Systran: Jim Said "I was enthralling surplus. I will calm downwards. You give good councils. I will read the reviews. My wife is a French professor and a chief. I can only ask for the "chocolate, please". I like my DNS6, thus I will not jump with DNS7 soon. Thank you for the council on the French and the computers. Please excuse all the rotten tricks about French. I joked only with Tom." John Said: "Of nothing!" What are they talking about?? I don't know, my personal translation is: Krish and CB are so wonderful, brilliant and fun... Is that what you got from it CB?? -------------------- Krish Harmeier

Krish,
>Transaltion from Systran Any translator will tell you that, so far, software that can translate foreign languages correctly does not exist. However, the results were so funny that maybe we should keep it up. I will do all my posts in French and you can run them through Systran before posting them. We will see how fast my "translated" suggestions can trash someone's machine! ;-) BTW, you should see the speachos you can get with the French edition! In one install that I did, what I dictated came out as "chewed sex" when translated! Thanks god the French have a great sense of humour, especially when it comes to sex! Oui, je suis d'accord que Krish et CB sont très amusants, mais Krish est entièrement trop gené d'accepter ça mais CB c'est une autre paire de manches! Human translation - Yes, I agree that Krish and CB are very amusing, but Krish is too shy to admit it. CB, on the other hand, is a different story! :-) John |

John, my interest is somewhat pieeakqued: Just what words did you input into that contraption, that came out the other side as "chewed sex?"
Jim, is your Ms. Webster the linguist, related to Mr. Webster the lexicologist? Regarding the naughty word usage in the sentence "p***ed our interest", would you accept the authority of a broad internet vote? Browse through the hits from a Google search for the following three terms (enter the quotation marks exactly as shown, in Google), and then decide for yourself: "peeked our interest" (66 hits) "peaked our interest" (269 hits) "piqued our interest" (977 hits) :-) Tom Swanson |

re: using Google to check out peeked, peaked, and piqued ----
Just because many people write "peeked" or "peaked" when they ought to use "piqued" doesn't change the meaning of "peeked" and "peaked." None of the definitions given by Webster's (at http://smac.ucsd.edu/cgi-bin/http_webster) for peek or peak have the same meaning as "piqued." The English teacher in me was just screaming to comment on this! |
