DNS 6.0 Preferred
Windows 2000 SP3 Word 2000 SP3 I'm experiencing an oddity in selection. It does fine if I ask DNS to select a normal, everyday word, such as "Diameter" in this: "Diameter: 11.65 inches (29.59 cm)" However, it won't select 11.65 ("eleven point six five," "eleven dot numeral sixty five" etc.) or 29.59 or 'cm' ("see em," "centimeters") Any guesses as to the cause? I'm using Professional 6.1, Windows 2000 SP2, Word 2000 SP2 -- there shouldn't be any difference in the behaviour of NaturallySpeaking in Word. I can select 11.65, dictated as eleven point six five, cm, dictated as centimetres, and 11.65cm dictated as eleven point six five centimetres. There's no problem at all. You must have added cm/see em to the Vocabulary. But if that were causing the problem (for reasons unclear) then I'd have expected all your Selecting to be affected. Have you always had this Select problem? -- if it's new then a Repair Install might well put it right; try one anyway Judy |

First, is there a 6.1 download for Preferred?
And, re: cm -- I was trying to indicate how I dictated, not that I added anything to vocuabulary. Unfortunately, I don't know if this is new -- I haven't tried dictating in Word in a long time. Most of my work is the generation of new copy and I use DragonPad for that. This came up because I'm editing someone else's copy, and selecting a word/numeral or two would be much easier via DNS (if it worked) than by holding the shift key and hitting arrow keys or spacebars. Dave, briefly
>>> And, re: cm -- I was trying to indicate how I dictated, not that I added anything to vocuabulary. >>> my vocabularies give centimetre/s as the dictation forms (spoken forms) of cm. When you try to select this and the numbers, do you simply get a ?? in the recognition box? If so try dictating centimetres, also, make sure that Automatically Format is checked in Options. >This came up because I'm editing someone >else's copy that could be causing the problems but try the suggestions here (and a Repair Install) first I forgot. There isn't a 6.1 for Preferred but it isn't anyway relevant to this problem (to my knowledge); unfortunately Preferred users have to wait for 7.0; at least that will be here soon (that is, a user was told it would be available this Spring) Judy |

All works after repair install...
With one final oddity -- I can't get any recognition using 'point', 'decimal' or any other option for the decimal point except 'dot.' But that's a minor thing. Thanks much Dave G. |

>All works after repair install... Good -- I'm really glad. >>> With one final oddity -- I can't get any recognition using 'point', 'decimal' or any other option for the decimal point except 'dot.' >>> This is a change, isn't it? You should still be able to say thirty seven point five and get 37.5 (I advise against using "decimal"). See if the Options are the same as before repair Judy |
