Why do you Use VR?: Ease, speed, and to stay current to assist disabled clients

Kate,

You just have to use the mouse settings in Windows. If you set it for a lefthand mouse, then "right click" will equal "mouseclick".

Re Mouse

That works for clicking OK, but I still use the mouse for positioning the cursor, . Using the 'voice grid' is very tedious and slows me down considerably. I have an inflammatory arthritis and sooner or later will need to use the left hand, which is in better nick

What is a USB sound pod, please? An add on bit of hard drive with a better sound card installed?

Headset rather than standalone Sennheiser PC150 ? I have SB Live sound card. I realise that my pc is becoming something of a relic...but not yet ready to change: soon though!

why not simply try "move up x" or left or right a number of words when you get to the right line?

If you want to move up 10 or more lines, why not write a simple macro "screen up" adding a number to it if you want to do it more than once and depending how far back you want to go.

Here is my macro

Sub Main
SendKeys "{PgUp}"
End Sub

To do it more than once, merely add a number after the curly bracket.

Hello Kate

Four things. First, there's an RSI support group in London (I realise you haven't got RSI, or may not have) some of whose members use NaturallySpeaking:
http://rsi.pdcompsys.com/

Second, Kim Patch, at www.scriven.com, has mouse control macros (but not free).

Third, I'd suggest you try autoclick mouse software, free download from
http://www.samsara.plus.com/mousetool

this is a personal home page, so there are sometimes problems getting through.

Fourth, you might want to look at
www.itspeaking.com

(UK supplier)

Thanks for the responses! I now know what to buy! I'm clearly in the place where the experts are!

As far as mouse use goes.. I use powerpoint a lot with voice recognition so that cursor positioning is critical, although snapping to the grid does help. Trying to use a voice directed mouse for this purpose I find difficult so far but I am still in the early stages of learning! I dont use the powerpoint wizards either, dont do the job I want. Anyone using macros for this purpose? the control D function for copying a grouped object?

Kate, I am not sure how well Preferred does with macros. It is more limited, compared to pro.

When you talk about positioning the cursor, is this in text?

In pro, to copy a group of words would involve selecting those words and and then saying "copy that"

If you upgrade to 8, then I think that you are going to find that the macro capability is restricted, unless the upgrade is to professional. With your ailment, I would suggest that because you would much better control by voice and then the full macro capabilities of DNS can be used, but it is a further outlay.

I have seen elsewhere that people have managed to upgrade to pro 7 and then to 8, I believe pro 7 was cheaper, by quite a bit. I don't know if that can still be done.

You're not going to get any sort of high-level macros without going to a Professional-level version of this software. Second, I posted a powerpoint that's run with a Dragon Macro as a start...

The post is on our parallel universe forum at:
www.emrconsultant.com/forum

Sorry, didn't say but I do have DNS Professional at work, (didn't make that clear) with a Sennheiser headset which although good is probaby a gaming headset.
Tried to post something in here to show you the sort of slide I create but failed.

Text is not a problem in powerpoint, no problem with that, great help but the finer cursor control needed for powerpointing diagrams etc is...part of my livelihood. I'm beginning to think a wireless pen shaped mouse and pad might be a better option

LondonKate...
You could zip your slide and post it over at:
www.emrconsultant.com/forum

where we could download and have a look...

And yesss... Judy doesn't like the decorum of the other site, but I'm partial to it's functions over this site - because you can post code/macros/etc...
