Reading from your hard drive or writing to it is an operation that is performed by Windows, not Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Given that, every now and then situations such as the inadvertent or intended closing of Windows are an application without ensuring that all information is properly written can cause this type of situation to occur with regard to Dragon NaturallySpeaking. Sometimes it is as simple as shutting down Windows or restarting Windows without first actively saving your DNS user profile. Windows, by default, uses delayed write caching. What this means is that information that is scheduled to be written to the hard drive is stored in a system cache buffer. This information is not immediately written to the hard drive in order to improve system performance. When you close Windows or close an application, this cache buffer is normally flushed and the information is written to the hard drive. Anything that happens that interferes with this process can result in the incomplete processing of written data. The problem that you are experiencing is basically one that has been known for a long time and for which the solution has been posted on any number of the forums many many times. Resolving such is simple and straightforward. Dragon writes information to a temporary folder in your user file folder. This folder is labeled "tb" if you carefully read the error message you will note that, under this condition, DNS has requested that Windows right information to this folder. Unfortunately, because of the above issues related to read/write failures, this folder was not properly cleared during a previous save operation. The request to write information to this folder has run into a conflict between a file that already exists in this \tb folder and which cannot be overwritten as a result. To resolve this problem simply do one of the following: 1. Try saving your user profile(s) again. Usually doing so will clear this folder and properly save your user profile(s). If this does not work, try suggestion #2. 2. locate your current active user profile and locate the "tb" folder. You can either delete that folder, or simply delete its contents. Once you have done this, resave your user profile(s). Since you don't indicate which version of Windows you are using, your user profiles are located as follows: Windows XP – C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10\Users\<your user name>\tb Note that the version of NaturallySpeaking may vary but the full path still remains the same. That is, you may be in using NaturallySpeaking9 or you may be using NaturallySpeaking10. The appropriate version will appear in the paths noted above and below (Windows XP or Windows Vista as appropriate). If you're using a version of DNS that predates DNS 9-9.5, you may notice that the folders refer to ScanSoft verse is Nuance. Regardless, the basic path structure is the same for all versions except those below 7.3. Windows Vista – C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NaturallySpeaking10\Users\<your username>\tb Any time that you run into this particular problem, either of the above solution should work to rectify the situation. Further, be careful when you're shutting down applications are shutting down Windows and make sure that DNS is always properly shut down first. This will avoid this type of problem. It is understandable that from time to time things happen over which you have no control. Nevertheless, just be aware of why this error occurs and what you need to do to successfully resolve it.
