my dad's just bought an Olympus DS-4000 for work. he wants to use it to walk round schools and talk into a lapel microphone. so that then, when he gets home, he can play back the recordings through his Dragon software ( 'transcribing' speech-to-text i believe )

BUT. he hasn't got a lapel mic. & has asked me to get him one

the thing is, whilst i was looking for information about lapel mic's i came across a post some guy had written about the Olympus ME-15 (the mic i'd pretty much decided to get). he said....

QUOTE

Not for use with speech recognition software
I bought this because it was recommended from the Dragon NaturallySpeaking software page. This was a mistake, the microphone is not compatible with the PC audio input. Do not buy this if you plan to connect it up to a PC.

now i'm no expert, but i thought you were supposed to plug this (lapel) mic into the voice recorder, NOT the PC - & then transcribe whatever you've said into your voice recorder into your pc using dragon AFTER THAT??

meaning the issue of the mic not being compatible with PC audio input isn't really an issue. because u're not really supposed to be connecting this kind of microphone straight to the PC anyway????

or have i got this wrong?

either way though, i still need to get a lapel mic, & i thought the ME-15 was ok

at least for USAGE = my dad, walking around (reasonably quiet) schools & speaking into whatever microphone is inside his jacket pocket. OR - sitting down at a desk & speaking into a mic. & then, when he gets home, transcribing his recordings into text documents using Dragon software????

i thought the ME-15 was ok for this???

so, if anyone can confirm or deny this it would be very useful for me. &, in case this mic isn't any good, if someone can suggest other alternatives that also would be good

thanks in advance

david
