My DNS 5.0 medical suite is now taking 10-15 seconds before recognizing my speech - especially if I pause to proof read or something. What is causing that?

If this is a new problem, then I suspect that you're either installed new software or hardware or are connected to a network where the environment has changed.
Either way, the irritating pause is a common symptom of lack of memory. When you put DNS to sleep, it makes some memory available for the rest of the system. When you wake up it is looking for 256 MB RAM, which is probably being used by other applications or simply your operating system. Most people find that there is a very significant improvement in performance when they increase to 384 MB RAM. If you're using other memory intensive applications, you should move to 512. I am using 1024 MB RAM and enjoying it very much. John ----------------------------------------------------------- Dictated with NaturallySpeaking jwickett@auracom.com jcwicket@vac-acc.gc.ca |
