Hello all,

Can anyone tell me if they are using an A/B box to electronically switch the input between two different microphones? If yes, are you using a homebrew solution or have you purchased a specific product?

I used a headset microphone for many years, TalkMic. A couple of years ago I started to use a handheld microphone attached to a boom, Sennheiser E835. I like the freedom of not being tethered to the computer. But there are times where it seems like I am unconsciously holding my head in a specific position to ensure a high level of accuracy. I think that I moved around more and had less neck and shoulder strain when I was wearing the headset microphone.

Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, and it works very well. I use A/B box to switch between the two computers that I use at work. I can't remember the name of the switch box right now but it has a silver bar that allows you to switch between computers. This is strictly "homebrew" but the drilling of a few holes and installation of the few plugs and associated wiring is really quite simple. Many times I continue to use the same microphone but simply by using the switch it averts the sound from one computer to the other. Often I find that it is too much hassle to change headsets.

I prefer personally a headset microphone because I like to move my head around when dictating and this is very difficult with a microphone on a boom. The option around that is to use a handheld mic but then you run into the problem of trying to keep constant spacing between your mouth and the mike. Marty is sending me his latest wireless headset and I will certainly post my opinion of the product.
