I have not used Dragon for several months, and decided to start back with it again. The first thing I noticed was the Voc Bldr slowed down to a snail's crawl ... and then nothing. I thought perhaps things got corrupt along the way, so I uninstalled Dragon and did not save the voice files. I wanted a "pure" reinstallation. What's what I thought.

The installation went fine until I had to train the voice files. I think I said "Welcome to General Training" about 10x before the system responded. I said "Training is about to Begin" about 15x and no response. I clicked Cancel and then the system woke up. I got about halfway through the training session and then everything froze up completely. I couldn't go any further.

I have not had any problems with my system insofar as any program goes. In fact, the last time I used Dragon it was working just fine. Now, I can't even get past the general training.

Any ideas on this?

Su,

Do a complete diagnostic check on the hardware... is the plug on the mic pressed home properly or has it loosened from the computer socket... is there any sign of cable damage, particularly at the plug end, and the headset end...if you cannot trace the fault this way, try setting up a new user in case your voice profile has corrupted, but from what you're saying, it sounds very much like some kind of hardware problem.

Difficult to advise you what to do from a distance, but looking for the obvious is the starting point... since you have not used the dragon software for a while, maybe the mic got dislodged or damaged unwittingly, and as you say, your other programs work ok, suggesting it is hardware at the root of this trouble.

Ross.
