When I tell my computer to shutdown, it starts to shutdown and then restarts again even on a "Reboot" it doesn`t shutdown properly.

I have established this as a software conflict between DNS7 Preferred and Realplayerone and shutdown DNS7 and "RealPlayerone" to start when "Booting Up". This seems to have solved the problem. Does anyone else have this problem and do the "Experts" have a solution Please??I have done the DNS 7.2 upgrade.

Best wishes,

Alastair,

Several years ago I became quite peeved with RealPlayer's annoying and diverse attempts to take over my computer and interfere with other programs and/or basic OS functions against my wishes. I removed all remnants of it from my computer, and since then have ignored all of RealPlayer's repeated invitations to re-install itself.

Looks like it's still following the same pattern.

You might be happier if you either wean yourself from using .RA files, or get the WinAmp plug-in that allows you to play RA files with WinAmp.

Luck,

Tom Swanson

Alastair,

I would leave DNS in your startup and then, if you needed to use RealPlayer you could always access it by voice.

Much as I hate to admit it, I agree with Tom on his point about RealPlayer being a pain in the butt and self propagating. Even if you eliminate it from your startup, it may decide to reinsert itself! ;-)

Hi John !

I have done everything even uninstalled Realone player completely and it seems that when I have DNS on bootup this is the problem.I will research further. It seems like some sort of software conflict.
Best,
Alastair

Alastair,

Have you deleted all entries related to RealPlayer from your registry? If not, it will still be there to haunt you.

Good luck,

John

Yes John, I did sort out the registry. That was worse with RealPlayerOne removed.

I have reinstated it and now with DNS and RealPlayerOne NOT starting at startup things seem fairly quiet. When I removed Realplayer one, DNS crashed the computer on closing down with a "Bluescreen of Death" with Realplayer things close down OK.

Its obviously a software conflict, and maybe Realplayer contributes to DNS in some way.

Strange - - - --one for the Archives I think.
Best wishes,
