Philips Speechmike confusion Options

I use this mike at home and at work and at home I plug into a new USB 2.0 card I put into one of the spare PCI slots with Dell computer running WinXP.

I also use DNSProf7 and get fairly good results but have read the stuff about DNS correcting automatically the sound and putting volumes down too low and wandered if I could improve and manually override this?

I get readings of 23..when I enroll but have had higher with different mike positions.THe position of the mike is critical and one of the problems of the handhelds but just more comfortable in an office open plan etc.
